Apache Burden Basket

Apache Twined Burden Basket. Willow and/or cottonwood, devil's claw, Native tanned deer hide, wire, trade cloth, paint. Twined with a banded design in devil's claw and red paint running vertically along the basket. Tumpline ties. Native tanned hide strips along four sides of basket and also on the bottom with hide fringe. 6 coils per linear inch, 11 stitches per linear inch.

Condition: Very good condition. Native tanned hide is a later replacement. 5 rods are broken at the top of the rim. Scattered stitch loss along rim. Hide slightly stained in some places, but remains supple and pliable.
