Navajo Classic First Phase Blanket
A1843
$485,000.00
Navajo first phase blankets are extremely rare with around 100 known to exist and first phase blankets with the addition of red and other colors such as this one are exceedingly rare. The design with its bold dark brown center stripe, thinner red bands, and even thinner bands of indigo blue and Saxony yellow is remarkably beautiful - especially when worn.
Provenience: This blanket was not known to have existed until very recently, except by the New England family that owned it. It had come down through the family from Stephen N and Anna E Bond where it was stored in a chest through generations before being sold in 2025.
Hand carded, hand spun natural white, brown and indigo dyed blue Churro wool yarn, three-ply Saxony yarn in cochineal dyed red, raveled bayeta in lac and cochineal (60:40) and Saxony green.
Condition: Very good. Small areas of professional restoration. Black staining in some areas commensurate with age.
Circa: 1865
