Plains Elk Hide Robe

Native tanned elk hide, Native pigment, Venetian beads, Sinew and cotton thread. Inside border line in Native pigment. Beaded blanket strip sewn across the widest horizontal with cotton thread. Venetian beads on the blanket strip sewn with sinew thread. This robe exact robe is depicted in a painting by Taos artist, Bert Geer Phillips titled, 'A Daughter Of The Water Clan' painted in 1911. An image of this painting is shown in the book, Bert Geer Phillips and the Taos Art Colony by Julie Schimmel and Robert R. White, University of New Mexico Press, 1994, Page 159, Figure 86.

Condition: Very Good Condition with some water staining. Hide remains supple and pliable.
