Artist Profile

Sharon Lewis was born in 1959 and is a member of the Red Corn Clan from the Acoma Pueblo. Sharon was inspired to continue the long lived family tradition of hand coiling pottery by Marilyn Ray and other family members. They taught Sharon the fundamentals of making pottery using traditional methods.

Sharon specializes in hand coiled miniature seed pots. Her designs include animals, kokopellis, mimbres designs and various geometric or fine line designs. She sometimes collaborates with her husband and they make pottery together. She is related to Diane Lewis, Carolyn Lewis, Judy Lewis, Rebecca Lucario (sisters-in-law) and Bernard E. Lewis (husband). Sharon signs her pottery: Sharon Lewis, Acoma, followed by a corn symbol to denote her clan origin.
