Description
Historically made by women, parfleche bags were used to carry food such as dried meat or pemmican or tools. This Native American rawhide container was made by painting a design (often mimicking landscape features such as mountains and waterways) on stretched raw hides before being shaped into an envelope form.
Condition: Some paint fading, wear commensurate with age. Scrapes and small cuts from preparing the hide.
