Description
Native tanned buffalo hide, Venetian beads, wood, feathers, trade cloth, tin cones, iron arrow tips, and Native pigment. Box design at either side with center handle terminating in tabs with diagonal beading and tin cone decorations. Sinew and cotton sewn. Collected by Thomas Mares in Nebraska during the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad around 1867. Remained with family until the late 1990s. Ex. Vanlandingham collection. Bow case measures 39.5".
Condition: Very good. Small tears in the strap. Letter of Provenience on file.
