Artist Profile

Susie Crank now resides near Shonto, Arizona. She was taught to make the Navajo pine pitch pottery by her mother, Rose Williams, who continued to make pottery into her late 80’s. Susie has 2 sisters, Alice Cling and Sue Williams, who also make the pine pitch pottery. All her pots are hand coiled and covered with pine sap which gives the pot a very rough look. She then takes a smooth stone and burnishes the entire pot as many as 10-15 times to smooth it out and give it a beautiful finish. The dark areas on the pot are from firing the pot.
