Artist Profile

Shyatesa White Dove “Sister to the Hopi Kachinas” was born into the Acoma Pueblo in 1956. She has been making pottery since 1984. Shyatesa was inspired by her grandmother, Connie O. Cerno, to continue the tradition of pottery making.

Shyatesa specializes in the polychrome traditional Acoma style pottery. Her favorite design to paint is the traditional parrot and floral design. Shyatesa sometimes hand coils her pottery or she paints her designs on ceramicware. Shyatesa signs her pottery with the date the pottery was coiled or painted, Shyatesa White Dove, followed by a brief description of pottery style.
